This paper aims to discuss the place of women in scientific and technological research in engineering, considering their insertion and the possibilities of progression, as well as the influence of gender social conceptions, in their careers. To attend this purpose, first, we analyzed gendered statistics about the career of scientific research in general, looking specially the engineering area. In order to enlight this quantitative portrait, we add an analysis of the related experiences from engineers - male and female -, that worked in technological and industrial research activities, in São Paulo State.
