Presents the SIBi/USP experience on the Modernization Project development, emphasizing automation of holdings and services, in order to enlarge the access to information, to reach the interconnectivity among institutions and to optimize the meeting of users demands. The main basis of the work is the quality enhancement of the Bibliographic Databank _ DEDALUS, with the installation of a functionally integrated software (ALEPH) and of equipments accordingly purchased, in order to create the SIBiNet. For that purpose, the adjustment of the international bibliographic format (MARC) and the retrospective conversion of stored records were carried out. Also, there are herein included some topics on the System administration related to collections management, to the human resources qualification, to cooperative work and resource sharing activities, thus becoming prepared to meet the requirements for the access and exchange of information, within the current international technical standards and technological policies.
