Abstract

MONTEIRO, Silvana; CARELLI, Ana  and  PICKLER, Maria Elisa. Representation and memory in the cyberespace. Ci. Inf. [online]. 2006, vol.35, n.3, pp. 115-123. ISSN 0100-1965.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S0100-19652006000300011.

Memory being a study object of many areas and having many attributes, the category preservation is more often used by Information Science in relation to the understanding of memory. However, in cyberspace, preservation does not look to be too strongly connected to the memory intelligibility, in function of the landless of sign and knowledge in flux. Thus it was listed some philosophic categories of study that were able to explain the nature change of memory in cyberspace. Representation was chosen, for considering memory always as written either internal or external, therefore a symbolic and virtual construction. According to preliminaries discussions, in general, the virtual memory in cyberspace would be more connected to thought (biological memory), the sign production of many semiotics, and to forgetfulness than the physical possibilities of human production conservation, such as printed registers, even so it is a new kind of memory in constitution, considering spatiality and nature of representation.

Keywords : Cyberspace; Memory; Representation; Semiotics; Information and communication technologies.
