Abstract
OLIVEIRA, Adriana Pereira de; NIENOW, Alexandre Augusto and CALVETE, Eunice Oliveira. Root system quality in the semi-hardwood and hardwood peach cuttings, treated with IBA. Rev. Bras. Frutic. [online]. 2005, vol.27, n.2, pp. 346-348. ISSN 0100-2945. http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S0100-29452005000200042.
This work was carried out with the objective of estimating root system quality in semi-hardwood and hardwood cuttings of six peach cultivars (BR 3, Chula, Coral, Eldorado, Marli and Sinuelo), treated with IBA at rates of 1500 and 3000 mg L-1 (immersion during 5 seconds), as compared with a control. Cuttings with 20 cm length sampled in December (semi-hardwood with 4 leaves) and April (hardwood with no leaf) were used. Rooting was done in 100 cm3 pots filled with carbonized rice husk, during 90 days in a greenhouse with intermittent mist. The indol-butiric acid increased root system quality of all cultivars and cuttings types. The more apropriate concentration was 1500 mg.L-1. Root system from semi-hardwood cuttings was better in quality (number, lenght, root volume and dry matter), but the two cuttings types are indicated for plant propagation.
