Abstract

FERNANDES, Ciane. Liquid sculpture: pre-effort and shape flow in (pos) modern education dance. Cad. CEDES [online]. 2001, vol.21, n.53, pp.7-29. ISSN 0101-3262.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S0101-32622001000100002.

The article uses two technical terms from Laban Movement Analysis - Pre-Effort and Shape Flow - to promote self-perception, body consciousness and the development of subtle movement qualities. The Laban System is presented in its four categories - Body, Effort, Shape and Space - and detailed in the two selected items, in relation to technical terminology and to their use in the classroom and onstage. Following that, Pre-Effort and Shape Flow are applied to choreography through Authentic Movement technique, from improvisations during the creative process until the presentation of interarts pieces.

Keywords : Laban Movement Analysis; Shape Flow; Pre-Effort; Body-Mind Centering (B. B. Cohen); Bartenieff Fundamentals™.
