Based on the Sociology of Absences and Emergencies by Boaventura de Souza Santos, this paper discusses the social representations of the know-how of traditional midwives. It seeks to highlight the need for a dialog between different knowledge and indicates that popular education can contribute to an ecology of knowledge and to the educational practice of health professionals.
