Abstract

ARAUJO-OLIVEIRA, Anderson; LENOIR, Yves; MORALES-GOMES, Maria Alejandra  and  MCCONNELL, Anne Catherine. Interdisciplinary practices in elementary school: conceptions of teachers and preservice teachers in Quebec. Educ. Soc. [online]. 2011, vol.32, n.117, pp. 1125-1145. ISSN 0101-7330.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S0101-73302011000400013.

The text compares the results of two studies that explore elementary teachers and preservice teachers' conceptions of their interdisciplinary practices in the context of the introduction of the new Quebec elementary curriculum. The studies involved 289 preservice teachers (from four Quebec francophone universities) and 81 Quebec teachers from the Sherbrooke school board. The responses to the survey, allowed us to draw conclusions regarding the participants' main conceptions of the concept of interdisciplinarity, its application and the hierarchy of school subjects. Result analysis shows that there is a great proximity between the teachers and preservice teachers' conceptions as well as a great stability through time when compared to similar studies carried out in the past.
