The paper examines the sculptural production of the French artist Louis Rochet made after his stay in Brazil, in 1856, to develop the project of the equestrian statue of the Emperor d. Pedro I, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Thus, the research studies the creation of the indigenous figures of the allegories of the pedestal of the statue and the buste Négre, Horace, that perpetuates in sculpture the slave's face that was designated to accompany the French artist during his stay in Brazil. The analysis explores the biography of this art pieces to interrogate how the ethnic representation of Blacks and Indians was participated at the art world in France and in Brazil, taking into account the discussions and different artistic programs.
