Yield of the strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) cvs. 'Campinas', 'Dover' and 'Princesa Isabel' was evaluated in organic system without and with covering manures, with the idea of using them in breeding programs. The experiment was conducted at the Universidade Federal de Viçosa, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, in a 3 x 3 factorial scheme in a randomized block design with five repetitions. The studied factors were: cultivars (Campinas, Dover and Princesa Isabel) and covering manures (without manure, with solid manure and with liquid manure). Each plot had an area of 1.28 m² with four useful plants and eight plants in the total. The planting date was on May 16^th. 2000, in raised beds of 0.8 m width and 0.4 x 0.4 m plant spacing. The cultivars were evaluated from July 18^th 2000 to Nov. 3^rd. 2000. The covering manure didn't affect the productivity, probably due to the fertility already available in the soil due to the manuring of the planting area (40 t.ha^-1 of organic compost). A greater number of marketable berries (average of 54.9 berries.plant^-1) was detected in 'Dover'. However, the total weight of marketable berries of 'Dover' (423.1 g.plant^-1) and 'Campinas' (331.8 g.plant^-1) didn't differ significantly. The medium weight of fruits of 'Princess Isabel' was significantly greater (9.5 g). The cultivars are suitable as genitors in breeding programs with a view to organic production.
