This paper offers an overview of Corpus Linguistics, which is a research area that has experienced a considerable growth in the past years and which has made a considerable impact on linguistics. The overview looks at both the past and the present of Corpus Linguistics. The main concepts in the area are presented and debated, and the paper also comments on the main theoretical aspects in the field. The principal corpora and software are reviewed.
