Based on the data gathered in Estudos da Tradução no Brasil / Translation Studies in Brazil, a CD-ROM published in 2001, this article examines theses and dissertations on translation by Brazilian researchers from the perspective of their historical and institutional location, with a view to identifying the different modes of research carried out and trends regarding the theoretical affiliation of the works. In order to characterize the academic production on translation in the Brazilian context, the map drawn from the data analysis is correlated to the map drawn by Holmes (1972; 1988) for Translation Studies in Europe.
