Abstract

BOSA, Cleonice  and  CALLIAS, Maria. Autism: a brief review of different approaches. Psicol. Reflex. Crit. [online]. 2000, vol.13, n.1, pp.167-177. ISSN 0102-7972.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S0102-79722000000100017.

This paper examines different approaches to the study of autism: psychoanalyses, affective theory, theory of mind, neuropsychological and information processing theories. The main contribution and limitation of these approaches are pinpointed. A claim is made towards the need of integration of different domains and further investigation that includes both social deficits and competence of individuals with autism. This would help the recognition of individual differences within the autistic continuum.

Keywords : Autism; review; different approaches.
