The issue of who are family therapists and what they do has been consistently debated and published in international journals. Regarding Brazil, this discussion has been made mainly in congresses that bring together Brazilian family therapists. With the goal of describing the national field of Family Therapy studies we have divided this article into two different sections: a search and description of some articles, chosen from a research in national journals, from SCIELO and INDEXPSI databases; and analysis of article abstracts published in the Collection of Abstracts from Brazilian Family Therapy Congresses.
