An analysis of the production of knowledge at the university level reveals that it is the result of individual experience within the historical and socio-cultural context. Both epistemological and circumstantial factors have a role to play in the production of knowledge. This second factor acquires strategic significance, as Brazil assumes its role within the global economy. Brazilian universities will need to be innovative managers of talent if they are to become competitive.
