The article discusses the construction of the notion of productivity in the system of telephone information services in France. In order to do so, it looks at the present technical and spatial reorganization of the service, the formalization of its activities, the administrative practices of the people in charge, and the operators' work practices, confronting different possibilities of definition of the services delivered, and thus, their productivity.
