Abstract

GOMES, Amanda Muzzi. Pro-restoration monarchists and jacobins: political activism. Estud. hist. (Rio J.) [online]. 2008, vol.21, n.42, pp. 284-302. ISSN 0103-2186.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S0103-21862008000200009.

In this article we compare the experiences of two rival political groups, pro-restoration monarchists and jacobins, during the first republican decade in Brazil, mainly in the transition period of the military government of Floriano Peixoto to the civilian one of Prudente de Moraes, between 1893 and 1897. The claims and strategies of these groups show how political actors built and communicated their ideas, and tried to interfere in governmental resolutions. By describing their performances we try to show the degree of political activism in this first republican decade.

Keywords : the first decade of Brazilian Republic; pro-restoration monarchists; jacobins; political performances.
