Abstract

ALMEIDA, Alfredo Wagner Berno de. Territories and specific territorialities in the Amazon: between "protection" and "protectionism". Cad. CRH [online]. 2012, vol.25, n.64, pp. 63-72. ISSN 0103-4979.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S0103-49792012000100005.

We are currently witnessing the imple-mentation of "a spatial and territorial reorga-nization", though not as a natural result of gradual increase in exchanges, but as the effect of the State's deliberately protectionist action to pursue market restructuring and the disciplined commercialization of lands and forest and underground resources. This article shows how the peoples and the traditional communities are constrained by the protective measures of multilateral agencies and the protectionist policies forged by the State.

Keywords : territory; territoriality; sustainable development; the Amazon region; agricultural strategy.
