Abstract

REHMAN, Wajid; BALOCH, Musa Kaleem  and  BADSHAH, Amin. Comparative study of structure: activity relationship of di and triorganotin (IV) complexes of monomethyl glutarate. J. Braz. Chem. Soc. [online]. 2005, vol.16, n.4, pp. 827-834. ISSN 0103-5053.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S0103-50532005000500023.

A series of di and triorganotin(IV) complexes of monomethyl glutarate have been synthesized and characterized through 1H 13C 119Sn NMR, FT-IR and 119Sn Mössbauer spectroscopy. On the basis of these techniques, it is proposed that the ligand molecule is bound to the tin atom through the carbonyl oxygen. The data reveal that diorganotin(IV) complexes exhibit hexa-coordination with octahedral geometry, while triorganotin(IV) complexes have penta-coordination with trigonal bipyramidal geometry. Biological evaluation against various microorganisms indicate that diorganotin(IV) complexes are less active than the triorganotin(IV) complexes.

Keywords : organotin(IV); monomethyl glutarate; biological activity.
