YIELD COMPONENTS AND GRAIN PRODUCTIVITY OF DRYLAND RICE IN RELATION TO ROW SPACING AND PLANT POPULATION. Sci. agric. [online]. 1999, vol.56, n.1, pp. 53-62. A field experiment was carried out on a clayey Dark Red Latosol in Selvíria, MS, Brazil, to study the effect of three row spacings (30, 40 and 50 cm) and three seed densities (100, 150 and 200 viable seeds/m2) on rice grain yield, yield components and plant phenology. The increase in plant population decreased tillering. A population of 100 viable seeds/m2 is the most adequate for this cultivar. The number of stalks and heads increased with the reduction of row spacing. In dry lands, with sufficient water, the 30 cm row spacing promoted the maximum grain yield.
