ABSTRACT
This paper analyses the main changes in the global economy, highlighting the role played by China in the 2000s. The effects of these changes on the real power of the most powerful countries are also analyzed. The analysis of the evolution of the effective power in the era of economic globalization deals with the trade, productive, technological, monetary and financial dimensions. The main conclusions found were: the relative increase of the economic power of China; the relative stability of the economic power of the United States after the 2008 crisis; and, the significant structural external vulnerability of some of the principle developing economies in the world.
