This study had as objectives to describe the concepts instituted by health professionals who work in the childbirth attention conserning the childbirth's humanization; to identify knowledge and practices of childbirth humanization; to evaluate the implementation of knowledge and practices in the childbirth attendance and its relationship with the humanization. It is a qualitative research of descriptive-exploratory with approach accomplished at the Maternity of the Antônio Pedro University Hospital, Niterói, Brazil, whose informants were sixteen health professionals, obstetricians and obstetrical nurses. Data were obtained by semi-structured interviews and analyzed by the method of content analysis. It was concluded that: the professionals know the health policies related to humanization of childbirth; they follow these policies' guidelines. These results, however, diverge of results observed in previous studies.
