LEFEVRE, Fernando; LEFEVRE, Ana Maria Cavalcanti  y  MADEIRA, Wilma. Hypertrophy of mediations, internet and empowerment in the health-disease field. Saude soc. [online]. 2007, vol.16, n.3, pp. 149-157. ISSN 0104-1290.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S0104-12902007000300014.

This paper aims to discuss the technical mediations that, today, in the health/disease field, are interposed between man and his body/mind. This paper is an essay based in the fact that societies are not self evident entities, and for this reason demand theoretical frameworks to be explained So, modern society here is analyzed based on some of the principles that command post modernity, especially the one concerning "separation between means and ends". Regarding methodology, these principles are illustrated using as reference a recent (2006) Master's thesis that analyses the possibility of using the Internet as an instrument for empowerment actions. There is a need for an empowerment action of social control over such mediations, in order to face the phenomenon of hypertrophy of mediations, which renders them autonomous and, therefore, ceases to serve men in his relationship with his body and mind.
