The one-way plastic drinking cups available in the Brazilian market have had their mass constantly decreased over the years, making it necessary to use two cups for efficient liquid retention. We have therefore carried out an evaluation of mechanical properties of plastic cups of various sizes in order to establish minimum performance requirements to be used in standardization of this product in the Brazilian market. The objective of this paper is to present the criteria adopted while developing the method, in addition to the minimum requirements suggested for this product.
