Polyaramid (aramid) is a high performance polymer, whose main characteristics are its high tenacity, low elongation and good heat resistance. Owing to the lack of familiarity of the market with textile materials, methods of analysis and the nomenclature used for this family of materials, errors in the choice of the product quality are common. The inadequate use of equipment in the characterization of this material may lead to errors of interpretation. This work aims to inform about this market, and discuss results of previous analyses. A stress x strain graph of polyaramid is linear if obtained with adequate equipment and fixtures, which is not the case if the equipment and fixtures are not suitable for textile yarns. In the thermo-gravimetric analysis, the best heating rate was approximately 3 °C/min. Degradation started at 510 ºC with breaking of single bonds, which was followed by degradation of aromatic rings at 525 ºC. Complete thermal degradation occurred at 575 °C.
