MOURA, Rosa  and  KORNIN, Thaís. De-constructing electoral discourse: the first round of municipal majoritarian elections in Curitiba in the year 2000. Rev. Sociol. Polit. [online]. 2001, n.16, pp.67-95. ISSN 0104-4478.

A Unitarian thought has been prevailing in the choice and adoption of urban instruments and policies. It was induced by the option of inserting cities in the process of productive restructuring, in accordance to the requisites imposed by the globalization model. Given its naturalized action, this procedure mirrors, in fact, intentions that are strange to the place, and that are incorporated in the population's imaginary as a consensus. Which are the results provoked by these strategies in the production of urban space and in the exercise of citizenship, and how were they incorporated and vehiculated in the electoral discourse of the first round of municipal majority elections in Curitiba in the year 2000? This essay searches answers to this question.

Keywords : Curitiba; municipal elections; electoral discourse; urban planning; city marketing.
