This study examines the cultural relationship between the sugar elites in Pernambuco and the Habsburg Spain. It also emphasizes the value system inspired in the courtship practices and the humanistic-baroque philosophical structure of Spanish intellectuals. The argument is based on the analyses of baroque and humanistic mentalité and courtship practices, aiming to understand the cultural exchanges between the sugar cities of Pernambuco and the Spanish Court through the exchange of men and ideas.
