Abstract

LYRA, Franciane Reinert et al. DOING GOOD FOR ITS OWN SAKE THE CASE OF BETO CARRERO WORLD PARK. REAd. Rev. eletrôn. adm. (Porto Alegre) [online]. 2017, vol.23, n.1, pp.234-251. ISSN 1413-2311.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1413-2311.167.60637.

The teaching case addresses the issue of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in a company in the tourism sector, Beto Carrero World Theme Park (BCW), located in southern Brazil. It is told by the coordinator of the institute of this company that carries out actions aimed at local community, Alexandra, who admits that they had never conducted research on the topic. The coordinator questions whether such actions correspond to the actual needs of constituencies involved (stakeholders), as well as if they are in accordance with some CSR models, such as Carroll (1991) and Schwartz and Carroll (2008). It uses data collected from secondary sources, (analysis of documents) and primary (including interviews, on-site observation and questionnaires applied to different audiences). The objective is to apply the theoretical foundations of CSR to a real situation faced by the management of an organization, based on the results obtained in a case study. It can be used in subjects, such as Environmental Management, Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility, on undergraduate and graduate courses. Addressing issues experienced in a real company with a strong socioeconomic impact, this teaching case offers students an opportunity to relate theoretical models into practice. It also stands out because it involves the subject of CSR, which has been widely studied and practiced by companies, and that is still not common in the teaching case format in the management education.
