This article is a historiographical balance which intends to analyze the approach defended by some historians on the survival of cultural African heritages amongst the slaves in Brazil, throughout the existence of the Atlantic slave trade. It also intends to focus the debate on the possibility of a permanent war situation, originated in ancient African rivalvries, which prevented the possibility of slave communities formation.
