In this article we present some data from our doctoral thesis in which we investigate the history of the knowledge and practice of Educational and School Psychology in Brazil. The study was carried out based on new history and philosophical-epistemological foundation of historical and dialectical materialism. We used bibliographical references as well as historical and oral accounts of five living characters of Brazilian history of Educational and School Psychology. The statements of historical sources and the material constituted a corpus of documents which followed the methodology of oral history and pluralistic history. A descriptive analysis was performed in two steps: a) document analysis (non-oral sources) and b) construction of a core of indicators from oral records. From the analysis, we built a timeline of the history of Educational Psychology and Brazilian school through landmarks of the area. We explore here the concept and terms used for the identification of Educational Psychology and School Psychology. We confer how these changes in the nomenclature of the area reflect epistemological, ideological and political choices.
