This paper presents the results of a research aimed at identifying the current status of Open Access Online Scientific Gateways by investigating their institutional insertion, platform and expressed policies. It includes a brief review of the literature on digital scientific journals and analyses of Brazilian scientific journal gateways maintained by State and Federal Institutions of Higher Education. Using the exploratory-descriptive method, this research was based on a documental study with quantitative analysis which included surveying, classifying, tabulating and interpreting data gathered from the gateways and journals published by 53 Federal and 36 State Brazilian Universities. A total of 17 gateways with highly diversified guidelines are shown.
