Abstract

REBELO, George  and  PEZZUTI, Juarez. Perceptions on Amazon turtles consumption: sustainability and alternatives to present management. Ambient. soc. [online]. 2000, n.6-7, pp. 85-104. ISSN 1809-4422.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S1414-753X2000000100005.

Turtles have been historically used in the Amazon. Nowadays they are consumed, although illegally, by urban and rural populations, but the question is not usually on target. A poll and a research on consumption habits lead us to discuss how the people perceive the problem, the alternatives to such anomalous and concerning situation, and the perspectives to reach sustainability.

Keywords : Turtles; Amazon; Consumption; Sustainability.
