This is a research registered in cadastre of the Nucleus of Research Nursing and Health of the Worker (NUPENST) EEAN/UFRJ. The nocturnal service has becoming most of the times harmful for the health of the worker. This study objectified to identify the perception of the academic of nursing related to the nocturnal work and to analyze the perception of the nursing academic about the influence of the nocturnal shift in the health of the nursing worker. The theoretical referential of Regis¹, Pitta², Fischer et al³ was used. Quantitative study, where 67 nursing academics of a Public University took part. A questionnaire was used. It was concluded that even the minority of the nursing academics has had experience with the nocturnal work, the majority knows some effect negative that can be caused by the nocturnal work, however many times associate only with the physiological aspects. The research brought subsidies that make possible that these questions could be treated in the Course of Graduation in Nursing.
