This paper focuses one of the most controversial issues that accompany these first 50 years of legally regulated profession: the social impact of the profession of psychologist and its possibility to contribute to the process of social change. From data on the evolution of the profession in Brazil, we discuss the issue comparing the thesis of social impact, social responsibility and social commitment, concluding by questioning the viability of the proposition of an ethical-political project for Psychology.
