Abstract

ARANHA, Flávia Queiroga et al. The role of vitamin C in organic changes in aged people. Rev. Nutr. [online]. 2000, vol.13, n.2, pp. 89-97. ISSN 1415-5273.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S1415-52732000000200003.

This study is a review concerning organic changes after 60 years of age, especially alterations in nutritional demands. The functions and properties of vitamin C are explored, and its use as a supplement to prevent hypovitaminosis is discussed. The aging of the population in Brazil has given rise to an interest in this age group, by certain research workers. The rapid growth of this sector expected in the next few decades suggests the need to stimulate the study of organic changes in such individuals, in the context of the developing countries.

Keywords : aged; ascorbic acid; nutrition.
