Resumen

MENDES, Maria Lúcia Dias. A História na visão de Alexandre Dumas. Alea [online]. 2004, vol.6, n.1, pp. 67-79. ISSN 1517-106X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S1517-106X2004000100006.

This article analyses the interest of French Romanticism in History. It shows the links between Alexander Dumas and his conception of History and historiography. In order to do that, the article studies Jules Michelet - an outstanding historian, greatly admired by Dumas. Walter Scott is another of Dumas' references from the same period. The Scotch author develops a new methodology for portraying History through fiction, that is analyzed and surpassed by Dumas. From this theoretical basis it was possible to analyze some of the techniques adopted by Dumas in his romantic feuilletons, whose plots are inspired by French History.

Palabras llave : Romanticism; History; Alexander Dumas; Walter Scott; Historic novel.
