The sugarcane's cultivation reached recently agricultural areas located in the Brazilian Amazon. This essay examines some recent experiences of insertion this culture in the states of Rondonia and Acre, southwestern Amazonia, recognizing weaknesses and new territorial instabilities resulting from sugarcane's cultivation and the installation of ethanol production units by outside companies.
