Qualitative study, based on Habermas Theory of Communicative Action developed to investigate consistency and/or tensions between technical speeches and field practices focusing on sexuality and AIDS prevention. Empirical substract consisted of individual interviews with 26 youths - of both genders, between 15-20 years old, public and private school students, living in the Metropolitan area of Recife. Results indicated important differences between presumption and argumentative rationale of the two types of speeches, with emphasis on the need of a constructive and interactive attitude from health-care professionals when formulating preventive strategies.
