The following article presents, through narrative interviews, the experience of women in the management of pubic professionalizing institutions. Although they reveal different paths, the interviewees reached the position of managers of the institutions where they were by conquering jobs usually occupied by males. The analysis of the interviews, conducted according to the documentary method developed by Ralf Bohnsack, revealed that occupying these positions in a traditionally male work context was not exempt from situations of suffering and struggle, involving several types of confrontation. Yet, in spite of the difficulties faced, these women contributed towards opening spaces that had been practically closed for many decades, both for students, teachers and managers of the female gender.
