Abstract

MACHADO, A.C.B.; PLEITEZ, V.  and  TIJERO, M.C.. Using antimatter in modern medicine. Rev. Bras. Ensino Fís. [online]. 2006, vol.28, n.4, pp.407-416. ISSN 1806-1117.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S1806-11172006000400001.

In this paper we discuss how the existence of antimatter, one of the main concepts of modern physics, is used in modern medicine in the so-called positron emission tomography (PET). It consists of bringing about digital images of the body, which are obtained through the detection of the radiation produced in the electron-positron annihilation.

Keywords : PET; medical physics; anti-matter.
