Abstract

DAHMEN, Sílvio R.. Gödel and Einstein: what if time does not withstand a friendship?. Rev. Bras. Ensino Fís. [online]. 2006, vol.28, n.4, pp. 531-539. ISSN 1806-1117.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S0102-47442006000400016.

Some friendships withstand the whims of time. But what if time proper does not withstand the congeniality of a friendship? In 1949 Gödel presented a solution to Einstein's equations - the so-called Gödel's Universe - according to which it would be possible, at least theoretically, to travel back in time. In this article I discuss the physical and philosophical implications of Gödel's work as well as the proficuous friendship with Einstein.

Keywords : history of physics; general theory of relativity; time travel.
