Abstract

COSTA, Jonatas Maia da; MASCARENHAS, Fernando  and  WIGGERS, Ingrid Dittrich. The eclipsed leisure: records about “Escola Aberta” (Open school) program. Motriz: rev. educ. fis. [online]. 2011, vol.17, n.4, pp. 569-578. ISSN 1980-6574.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S1980-65742011000400001.

This study is about an experience within “Escola Aberta” program, attempting to identify its main features and highlighting the points referring to the importance that the leisure would have within this offer. It is a policy that is coordinated by Education Department, which objective is giving activities for students from public schools and their communities, accomplished during weekend free time, in order to develop workshops of culture, sports, leisure and work, as complementary actions out of formal education. The research was accomplished by documental analysis and field observation. A school from Região Administrativa do Itapoã (DF), of low social-economic level, was selected for this research. We found that the local population’s lack of work positions and income produces an instrumental effect on workshops. Training activities for work tend to subordinate the leisure experiences, limiting the program identity.
