Neoregelia cruenta (R. Graham) L.B. Smith is a monocotyledonous species belonging to the family Bromeliaceae, order Bromeliales, superorder Liliiflorae ( sensu Dahlgren, 1980) that has wide distribution on the restingas of Rio de Janeiro State. There are no records in the literature about the chemical composition of this species, neither about its pharmacological potentialities. From the hexanic extract was isolated: a mixture of glyceryl 1,3-bis- p-hydroxycinnamate, glyceryl 1,3-bis- p-methoxycinnamate, glyceryl 1- p-methoxycinnamate-3- p-methoxydihydrocinnamate and glyceryl 1- p-hidroxycinnamate. Identification of these products were carried out by spectroscopic analysis and comparison with literature data.
