Incidência de oftalmia neonatal clamidiana em Palmares, Estado de Pernambuco, Brasil.

RESUMO

O município de Palmares, no Estado de Pernambuco, Brasil, é reconhecido como região endêmica para tracoma e cervicite clamidiana.

Em um grupo de 21 neonatos oriundos de parto transpelviano, com idades entre 5 e 14 dias, encontrou-se incidência de 23,81% de infecção clamidiana da conjuntiva, através da citologia pela coloração com anticorpo monoclonal fluorescente.

A incidência encontrada foi considerada elevada quando comparada aos resultados obtidos em outros países, porém, proporcional à prevalência, também elevada, de cervicite clamidiana encontrada naquela área.

SUMMARY

The town of Palmares, in Pernambuco State, Brazil, is recognized as a trachoma and chlamydial cervicitis endemic aerea.

Chlamydial conjuntivitis incidence was 23,81% in a group of 21 infants born vaginally, aged between 5 and 14 days. It was used monoclonal fluorescent antibody citology in laboratorial tests.

This incidence is considered high when compared to other countries but it is proportionally high to the elevated prevalence of chlamydial in that area.
