Potential acuity evaluation through cataracts with the McIntyre “superpinhole”

RESUMO

Faz-se um estudo prospectivo onde o “Superpinhole” de McIntyre foi usado para avaliar a função macular de pacientes candidatos à cirurgia de catarata com implante de lente intra-ocular. O coeficiente de correlação (r) comparando o teste pré-operatório com a acuidade visual pós-operatória, foi de 67,17%. A sensibilidade do teste foi de 97,56% e a especificidade de 66,67%. O índice de sucesso cirúrgico foi de 95,29%. O valor preditivo positivo foi de 66,67% e o valor preditivo negativo de 33,33%. Portanto, deve-se valorizar os resultados negativos, pois há uma probabilidade de 33,33% que o fracasso cirúrgico realmente ocorra.

SUMMARY

The McIntyre Superpinhole was used to evaluate the macular function of cataract patients. The correlation coefficient (r) was 67,17%. The sensibility was 97,56% and specificity was 66,67%. The positive predictive power obtained was 66,67% and the negative predictive power was 33,33%. The authors conclude the negative predictions shoud be emphasized.
