Perda visual na síndrome do pseudotumor cerebral

RESUMO

Cinqüenta e oito olhos de 29 pacientes com pseudotumor cerebral foram submetidos a exame neuroftalmológico incluindo avaliação do campo visual central e periférico com perímetro de Goldmann. Quarenta e dois olhos (72,4%) apresentaram perda visual e em 15 (25,8%) esta foi severa. Estes achados confirmam a alta freqüência de alterações visuais nesta condição, revelam uma incidência mais elevada de perda visual severa do que em outros estudos e servem para enfatizar a necessidade da participação ativa do oftalmologista no manejo destes pacientes.

SUMMARY

Nenro-ophthalmologic examination including Goldmann perimetry was performed in 58 eyes of 29 patients with pseudotumor cerebri. Forty two eyes (72,4%) revealed some deficit in visual function and 15 (25,8%) had severe visual loss. This study confirmed the high incidence of visual impairment in this condition and revealed a higher frequency of severe visual loss when compared to other studies. These data serve to emphasize the need to active participation of the ophthalmologist in the management of this condition.
