Estudo das manifestações oculares em crianças com paralisia cerebral

Ocular abnormalities in children with cerebral palsy

RESUMO

Foram examinadas 290 crianças portadoras de paralisia cerebral, com o objetivo de avaliar e estimar a freqüência das alterações oculares e tentar correlacionar com os diversos tipos clínicos de paralisia cerebral. A hipermetropia (pura ou com astigmatismo) foi a ametropia mais encontrada, sendo de evolução semelhante às crianças normais. Foram prescritos óculos para 73% das crianças e ambliopia foi detectada em 43%, sendo a maioria antes dos 6 anos de idade. As esotropias foram encontradas em 53% contra 40% de exotropia, não havendo correlação com um tipo clínico específico de paralisia cerebral. Houve variação de desvio em 30% dos casos. Nistagmo e atrofia óptica foram encontrados numa proporção maior do que na população normal.

SUMMARY

We examined 290 children with cerebral palsy in order to identify the ocular defects and correlate them with specific types of cerebral palsy. Hyperopia (pure or asthigmatic), was the commonest ametropia and its evolution was similar to normal children. Eyeglasses were prescribed for 73% of the children, and ambliopia was detected in 43%, most of them in a good age for treatment. Esotropia was present in 53% and exotropia in 40% of the patients; no correlation was found with any type of cerebral palsy. Thirty percent of the strabismus patien ts showed variation in the measurements. Nistagmus and optic atrophy were found in a higher frequency compared to normal population.
