Histologic characteristics of filtering blebs in patients submitted to trabeculectomy with intraoperatively use of 5-FU

SUMMARY

Authors studied the histological aspects of filtering blebs conjunctiva of two patients who had undergone surgical revision of the filtration site after trabeculectomy with 5-Fluorouracil during the procedure. Blebs were excised due to ocular hypotony. Light microscopy showed: conjunctival epithelium attenuation, substantia propria with loosely organized collagen, few blood vessels and rare inflammatory cells. Our histhopathological findings are similar to those reports in the literature for cases treated with mitomycin-C.
