SUMMARY
Purpose:
To evaluate the excretory lacrimal pathways (ELP) by scintigraphy and dacryocystography, comparing both methods.
Methods:
We studied 34 patient 5 (68 lacrimal systems) from the Lacrimal Pathway Outpatient Clinic who were submitted to dacryocystography (DCG) and lacrimal scintigraphy (LS).
Results:
It was observed that 61.8% of right ELP and 55.9%o of left ELP investigated did not have obstruction by DCG. 73.5%o of these patients had radiological signs suggestive of cornetus hypertrophy. The LS showed no obstruction in 29.4%c of right ELP and 23.5% of left ELP. However, 32.3%c of the ELP obstructions were only detected by scintigraphic examination.
Conclusion:
The authors concluded LS to be an important examination for the diagnosis of obstruction of the lacrimal system, mainly in the carriers of functional obstruction.
