Rachadura dos tubérculos de batatinha
O. J. Boock; A. S. Costa
SUMMARY
In the State of São Paulo cracking of tubers is more prevalent in potato plantings made in the so-called "dry season planting" in which rainfall is more abundant in the beginning of the growing period of the plants and scarce toward the end.
Data from variety tests carried out in several localities indicated that Katahdin, Green Mountain, White Bliss, Z.P.C-40,405, Eersleling, and Saskia showed high incidence of cracking. Eigenheimer showed little cracking.
A negative correlation between susceptibility to cracking and a tendency to form second growth has been noticed.
Negative results were obtained in attempts made to perpetuate the condition through the tubers. Transmission tests by grafting were also negative.
