SUMMARY
To make sampling of "purple" soils easier, specially when wet, it was perfected the type of auger shown in picture 1.
It is an open type of auger, with one vertical side designed to cut the core, the other side with an inclined cutting edge to feed the auger. The cutting edge surpasses the external projection of the auger, to make the bore bigger than the auger body, thus making it easier to get the auger out the hole.
The auger was found to operate particularly well in wet oils and to be more efficient than the common types of augers used to make bores for foundation studies.
